  • My granddaughter, Toni Thomason, saw these 2" long crystals 'growing' like grass in a field near Athens yesterday. Her brother, John, saw more of them at Athens high school. What combination of meteorological conditions causes these to form? Are they related to the frost crystals that sometimes coat wires and twigs? I remember seeing barbed-wire fences that looked like tow ropes in Minnesota a long time ago. Jerry Woken

TENNESSEE VALLEY (WHNT) – Here are some of your pictures of the snow and ice that impacted north Alabama, especially northeast Alabama.  The snow fell on Tuesday, Jan. 28, quickly causing traffic problems in many parts of Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Etowah counties.

These are your photos of the traffic, but also pretty images of nature – we love the birds and the cows and hope you will too.
