Lauderdale County, Ala. (WHNT) – Domestic violence is an issue and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, along with domestic violence organization Harmony, gathered to talk about the issue.

“I think we’ve saved more men’s lives than women’s lives because before, women didn’t feel like they had an option and would continue to try to exist in these relationships that were draining them. They would get to this point where they didn’t feel like they had any option but to be violent back. We exist for that reason as well, to show they do have an option; they do have a choice,” said Harmony coordinator Taneshia Hannon.

This meeting came abut after an incident that happened on last Saturday. Deputies received a phone call about a woman stabbing her boyfriend. According the investigators, the suspect Cletus Richardson faces several charges. The woman is not facing any charges because she was victim of domestic violence.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and organizations like Harmony hope they can get the word out so victims know they have a way out.  Harmony is a program offered by Safe Place.  Visit their website here.
