State Audit of U.S. Space & Rocket Center Finds Several Issues

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)– A recent audit of the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission board that oversees the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville shows several areas where improvements are needed at the state agency.

The audit was filed by the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, and involved activity between October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2012.  Our news partners at The Huntsville Times reported this Wednesday.

The report reveals eight noncompliance items that vary in topic, from longevity payments for employees to failure to comply with the Alabama Open Meetings Act.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center spokesman Tim Hall said  the state agency is complying with the audit’s findings, according to a statement sent to our news partners at AL.com Wednesday.

The report, which was presented to the Commission in October last year, said the Commission has 18 members who are appointed by the governor to eight year terms.

In November, Gov. Robert Bentley appointed Col. (Ret.) Roosevelt Lewis, of Tuskegee, as board chair of the Space Science Exhibit Commission.

It is important to know, and understand the business practices, and policies of ANY on-going business! The CPA, and/or Accountant should know, and understand these practices, and insure they are implemented, from the outset! Now, not all CPAs, and Accountants understand the internal controls necessary over business practices!

By just appointing a BODY, for political purposes, is not good enough!

Please, Please, now could the rest of the truth come out? Why havent the employees received raises in 5-6 years, now we see also getting less longevity payments, people are having their jobs threatened upon, so called restructuring every month that makes no sense. Something/..is so completely messed up with the way the U.S Space and Rocket Center is being run, the Governor needs to take a good hard look and make changes starting at the top.

Really, why is the CEO lying like changes are in place. If you not among her crew then changes are not in place. The governor and commission needs to come see whats going on because she strait lying. Then you cant file a employee complaint because you will be fired the next day by the vp of HR who is over employee relations. They have hired several of their friends and who knew there was any job openings. My boss was demoted so she could put her friend in his place. The commission needs to look at the money and raises of any one who reports to the CEO and the VP of HR are making. But the other employees cant get raises. We have not had raises in 6 years but all of them have.
