COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – We had some calls and emails to the WHNT News 19 newsroom Thursday about loud booms being heard, and felt, in part of the Shoals.

“Several people, myself included are hearing loud booms in Florence, Killen and Rogersville. I live near Rogersville and could feel the percussion while standing on my front porch. What the heck is going on?” one viewer asked.

WHNT News 19 Shoals Photojournalist Carter Watkins also heard the noise in downtown Florence.

Mike Melton at Colbert County EMA told WHNT that Florence Police were disposing of old ammunition to the west of Florence at the same time and could have generated some very loud booms.

If this is the case, law enforcement should have notified the above areas of what what taking place today. Also, why would people in Colbert county feel and hear separate booms? Is there something going on that we NEED to know about? I think someone needs to investigate this further to give the public some answers.

Having served in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry, Ammunition is supposed to make a LOUD BOOM! Duh!

  • If this is the case, then why did local law enforcement tell us a story? Colbert Steam said it wasn’t them. Why lie about it?

  • Brandon says:

    Great question!

  • Well, is this it? No more explanation than that? I heard and felt this waaaaay on the other side of Muscle Shoals, almost out of the city limits. And the booms and ground shaking traveled THAT far?? I call shenanigans.

    • Brandon says:

I do too! Someone, is covering up what is really happening.. Also what about jets flying over after the booms? Why hasn’t there been anymore info released?

      Cover up…
