HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — It was the season for giving and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers here in Huntsville is doing just that. This holiday season, they reached out to those who have served our country.
“At this time of the year, we are reaching out to the veterans here because someday, regardless of where you’re at in the service, you will be a veteran, so this is our way of giving back to those here,” said Russ Dunford. Veterans from the Tut Fann Home received gift baskets from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
They wanted to give back to those, who gave up so much for us.
“They’re the backbone of our country,” said Chester Andrews. “Warriors make it happen, if it were not for them, we wouldn’t be the free country that we are today.”
The veterans receive gift baskets filled with snacks, goodies, and all kinds of treats for the holiday season. “It’s been a very wonderful day hearing the music and the gifts that were given to tut fann are greatly appreciated,” said Charlie Elkins.
“I’m here and i’m glad to be here, thank you very much,” said veteran Bill Stout. For some, the basket means more than you can ever imagine.
“Some veterans don’t have anyone, some have family members that cannot make it to see them and it means a great deal for Christmas to have something,” said Schevonna Anderson with the Tut Fann Home.
