RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Russellville police have located the man they say broke into a residence and attempted to rape a 12-year-old girl.

Police say at approximately 12:30 on Friday morning, Gaspar Perez-Bartolo broke into a residence on the 300 block of Tuscaloosa Street in Russellville. They say Perez-Bartolo entered the residence through a window that led into a 12-year-old female’s room.

Once inside the room, police say he held the girl down, covering her mouth, and demanded that she undress. The child’s mother heard the commotion inside the room and woke up. She began beating on the door, which caused Perez-Bartolo to flee the residence through the same window.

Investigators say Perez-Bartolo contacted a neighbor Friday morning 10:00 a.m and stated he was on Interstate 65 South, somewhere around the Montgomery area.

Warrants for Burglary 2nd Degree and Attempted Rape 1st Degree have been obtained for Perez-Bartolo. He was arrested in Russellville on Friday afternoon.
