LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A man is dead after a shooting early Thursday evening on Red Bird Lane.

Sheriff Mike Blakley confirms that Jonathan Kevin Johnson, 28, was shot and killed just before 6:30 in the eastern portion of Limestone County.

Blakley said Johnson’s stepfather came to his residence to repossess a 1999 Chevy Blazer that he sold Johnson. They exchanged words and got into a heated argument.

Johnson then pointed a pistol at his stepfather, according to Blakely. Johnson’s stepfather grabbed the gun and it went off, hitting Johnson in the chest.

Johnson was pronounced dead at Athens Limestone Hospital.

Blakely said that no charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing. Deputies are currently in the process of interviewing witnesses at the scene. He said it’s possible the case could be presented to a grand jury.

Neighbors say the area in which the shooting took place is normally a quiet neighborhood. They say they are shocked and disappointed that it happened there.

Where are the repo papers? If the step father was there to repo a vehicle then where are the repo papers? Seems to me like there may be more to this story.

Well in my opinion the suspect should be sitting behind bar’s. Its a shame that a person could take another person’s life and not be punishd for it. So again is this justice for all or is it justice for some. WWe the public. would like to see justice served for Mr. Johnson.

I am his baby sister . He’s 29 . He wasn’t trying to repossess the vehicle . There’s a whole lot more to this story than people know . He will rot in prison and me and the family will see to it . His stepfather has major issues . Kevin was the greatest person I knew . He was such a great person . And my role model, brother , and best friend . Prayers will be greatly appreciated.

@ Destiny my thoughts are with you and your family in your time of loss. And I had a gut feeling that something wasn’t right. Let’s make sure justice is served for your and your family. And may god be with each and everyone of you in this time.

This young man served his country well. He was a great father, soldier, and friend. He touched our family like the Angel he now is while he was here on earth. Loved by so many, this loss is great. Heaven has received home an Angel that’s smile touched so many.

RIP Kevin. We will miss you, Tanya and Timothy Nye

Seems to me that people should hear the whole story before going and making assumptions on what did or did not happen. Kevin was a nice guy who was taken too early. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly. The stepfather also has family though, and from my understanding of what happened, the gun was pulled by the victim and the stepfather was trying to push it away. The ugly comments towards either one involved are senseless.

There is alot more to the story. Kevin should not have been killed it was also crazy. Kevin and I were just talking about the whole situation and its so sad to know that this happened. :( It should not have been him. He was the best friend anyone could ask for. He was always there when you needed him. He would send random text just to brighten your day when he knew you were going through alot. He has left behind two beautiful children, a mom, and so many more. He will forever live on in each and everyone.

I knew Kevin from being deployed with him and serving in the Guard with him stateside. He was cool dude. Pretty easy going and fun to be around. I really hate this for him and his family. R.I.P. battle.

There is a lot more to this story. Stepfather terroized Kevin and his mom. Abusive situation.stepfather went over there looking for trouble. Reposseion? Can anyone just go over an take a vehicle claiming that it is theirs when there is a bill of sale that says otherwise. Hope the sheriff and prosecutor will look into this further and see that Kevin feared this man and feared for his life.
