Florence Church Open Its Doors To Help Residents Stay Warm

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – As temperatures drop into the teens, Highland Baptist Church opened their doors to help those in need.

Chris Underwood is the Associate Pastor at the church. He said he knew some people might not have a warm place to stay and he had to do something about it. Underwood and his church team opened the church’s doors and created a warming center.

The center is aimed to help people keep warm during the cold nights by providing them with food and shelter.

“It really comes from the motivation of the Lord. We wanted to be the hands and feet of Jesus and love those who need it. We hope we can touch at least 20 people a night,” said Underwood.

If you’re interested in spending the night here you must bring some form of identification to the church. Church leaders said the warming center would be open until Tuesday.
