UPDATE: Washington Machinists Union Accepts Boeing 777X Offer

BOEING 777-X

PUGET SOUND, WA (WHNT) – The Machinists Union in Washington state voted late Friday night to accept a new contract offer from Boeing.

The decision keeps the production of the new jetliner 777X in Washington state and ends Huntsville’s hopes of landing thousands of jobs associated with it.

The union rejected previous offers from Boeing, leading the company to look for a new production site.

Following the vote, Mayor Tommy Battle issued a statement on the new contract agreement between Boeing and the Machinists Union.

In the statement, Battle emphasized the city’s appreciation for the opportunity to be involved with the process.  He said, “The process has given us the opportunity to highlight what we do best – provide superior engineering, technology and manufacturing capabilities within a favorable economic environment.  Boeing is a significant community partner with a 50-year record of successful operations in Huntsville. Its design center here worked on the 787 and will continue to play an important role in the 777X.”
