UPDATE: Huntsville Police Rule Traffic Accident Involving a Pedestrian on Drake Ave. Suicide
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville police were on the scene of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Drake Avenue on Friday morning. They have ruled the incident as suicide.
Drake Avenue from Clopton St to Hale Dr was closed for more than an hour after the incident.
Gene Tuck, the driver of a 5,600 pound concrete pumping truck says he was traveling the speed limit of 40 miles per hour on Drake Avenue when a man walked in front of him.
“He looked right at me and then stepped in front of me almost like he did it on purpose,” said a shaken Tuck.
Police say there man appeared to be a transient but had been staying with friends who lived in the area.
Police on the scene said the latest update they got from the hospital about an hour after the accident was that the victim was still breathing but was in critical condition.
It was later reported by police that the man died and that this is a suicide investigation.
