FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Police say he was gunned down while sitting in his vehicle on a late night in November, and after more than a month of investigating, Florence Police are still searching for clues in who killed Eric Watkins and why.

“Some people may be scared. Some people just don’t want to get in the mix,” explained Sgt. Cliff Billingsley.

At 11-pm on Sunday November 10th, Sgt. Billingsley with the Florence Police Department said someone approached the vehicle of Eric Watkins and shot him at close range.

Billingsley said Watkins was parked next to a building that sits just off Chisholm Road on Marion Avenue.

“We have been working around the clock,” explained Billingsley. “We have had really long days in this case, and we really need the citizens to come forward to help us out.”

Investigators believe someone in the public has information that could help break the case.

No matter how small the tip is, Billingsley said they need the information that is being kept from police.

“The family deserves justice in this case, and also the victim as well,” stated Billingsley.

In addition to Shoals Area Crime Stoppers reward money being offered, Florence Police are offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

The Shoals Area Crime Stoppers Tip Line is 256-386-8685.

There is rarely such a thing as a random murder. People don’t go around shooting and killing people sitting in cars. He must have been into some illicit stuff that gat him into alot of trouble. God Rest his soul in peace.
