FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – With only a few days before Christmas, this weekend is one of the busiest weekends for restaurants and retail outlets. Residents said when they are shopping or eating and severe weather hits, their main priority is safety.

Most restaurants and retail outlets have a procedure workers follow when severe weather hits.

At Regency Square Mall in Florence, the mall makes sure shoppers go into one of the five hallways inside the mall. They make it a priority to keep customers away from glass and doors.

At Rosie’s Mexican Cantina restaurant, manager Ray Grissom said the restaurant has similar procedures to the mall.

'We have a procedure where we would shut down the operation and we do try to keep everyone in the restaurant,' said Grissom.

Some of the restaurant’s designated areas where they send customers during severe weather include the back of the restaurant and the kitchen.
