SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WHNT) — Scottsboro Police are looking for a suspect they say will face multiple charges in a stolen debit card case. Officers identified the suspect Thursday.

Lieutenant Scott Matthews of the Scottsboro Police Department says officers have been working on this case since last week.

Lieutenant Matthews says the victim went to a McDonald’s on December eleventh. He says the victim left her wallet in the bathroom, and when she went back to get it, it was gone. “Video surveillance showed that there was only one person who went into the bathroom for the next hour, hour and a half,” Lieutenant Matthews says.

Lieutenant Matthews says later that night that same person, a young woman, surfaced again. This time, using the stolen debit cards to rack up hundreds of dollars in purchases. Lieutenant Matthews says Thursday the department was able to identify her as Amanda Jo Scott Wilks. “I’ve obtained warrants on her for fraudulent use of a debit card, forgery second, and the theft of the wallet,” Lieutenant Matthews says.

Scottsboro Police say cases like this around this time of year are fairly common. “The theft of purses, wallets, they peak a little during the holiday season,” Lieutenant Matthews says.

He says shoplifting and internal thefts at businesses increase each year around the holidays as well.

Scottsboro Police are asking anyone with information as to where Wilks might be to call the department.
