HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(WHNT)-The Huntsville Stars move to Biloxi, Mississippi is still not a done deal, and new details are emerging about why that may be.

WHNT News 19 has learned that some Southern League owners voiced concerns over the proposed relocation during a closed-door owners meeting in Orlando Wednesday. The Southern League office has declined to comment on the meeting, but sources familiar with the discussion told WHNT News 19 that the relocation plans of Stars owner Miles Prentice may be encountering some resistance among his colleagues. A majority vote of the Southern League owners is required for a franchise to relocate.

Sources said a few owners voiced concerns over increased travel budgets some teams will face in the bus-reliant league, with Biloxi being a further haul for many of them. Huntsville’s geographically central location in the league makes it an easier trip for the majority of visiting teams when compared to Biloxi, which would lie in the southwest corner of the league map.

Sources also told WHNT News 19 that the Mobile BayBears are very reluctant to give their blessing to the Stars move, since their territory would be essentially squeezed. Biloxi lies just 60 miles west of Mobile, while current league member Pensacola sits 60 miles to the east. We’ve also learned that the owners will get together again before the end of December, but it’s not yet known if that will happen in person or via teleconference.
