A new baby seat with a built-in iPad attachment is sparking outrage from some parents and children’s advocates online – who argue babies need “laps, not apps.”

As CBS News and The Associated Press reported, The Fisher-Price “Newborn-to-Toddler Apptivity Seat for iPad” comes with a with a spot where parents can insert an iPad.

You can imagine why the idea might appeal to parents. The seat offers a way for babies to be entertained while mom or dad takes a shower or grabs a quick meal. Fisher-Price describes it as “another way to stimulate and engage baby.”

Not everyone agrees. The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood said encouraging screen time at such a young age is not healthy for an infant’s development. The group has started an online petition, urging Fisher-Price to recall the product.

“The seat is the ultimate electronic babysitter. Its very existence suggests it’s fine to leave babies all alone with an iPad inches from their face,” said Susan Linn, the group’s director, in an interview with CBS News and Associated Press.

It sounds like someone needs to invent digital birth control.

    • Wake Up says:

      Conservatives would outlaw it!

      • There are many conservatives who use birth control. My girlfriend is a great example of this. Not everyone who believes in small government, financial accountability, free market, and the constitution are Ultra-Conservative Right Wing Christians. With a name like wake up I would assume you would have done so yourself before posting such ignorant garbage on a public forum.

      • Wake Up says:

Brandon, you are correct. The problem is, people like you are not in control of the Republican (conservative) party today.

    They have, it’s called Xbox.
