U.S. Space & Rocket Center Warns of Misleading Letter Circulating
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – We want to make you aware of a potentially misleading letter.
This is a letter sent to someone here in the Tennessee Valley stating the person won a tablet computer. The top of the letter says it is from the Space and Rocket Center.
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center contacted WHNT News 19 on Monday, after someone contacted them to ask if it was real. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center says it did not send out these letters, and says the mailings are not affiliated with the center in any way.
On another part of the letter, it states it is sponsored by DirectBuy of Huntsville. Turns out, this mailer was issued by DirectBuy. Their corporate headquarters offered WHNT News 19 this statement, calling the wording of “Space and Rocket Center” a mistake.
“This did not go through our direct mail compliance protocol, does not meet our ad policy for our franchise marketing system, and was not approved by our corporate marketing team. We do not support these types of advertising and marketing practices, and are working hard to ensure our franchisees and their local marketing partners are in compliance with the high standards we’re setting for the DirectBuy brand. We have determined at the executive level, that the best approach to ensuring that this club is in compliance with our new policies is to drop a corporate representative into this club for the foreseeable future to ensure that the club is running to the new DirectBuy standard.”
