HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(WHNT) – Could it be the biggest Iron Bowl of them all? Top-ranked Alabama and No. 4 Auburn are preparing for an epic showdown on the Plains this Saturday, with local sports talk radio airwaves buzzing over the mega matchup.
Former Alabama player and current 97.7 The Zone co-host Wes Neighbors worked busy phone lines Monday for “The Drive,” his daily program, to officially kick off Iron Bowl week.
A lot of predictions were made by callers, many of them colorful.
“I would like to declare open season, and it’s Tiger season y’all. It’s time to hunt Tigers, and all I can say is Roll Tide,” boasted one energetic Alabama supporter.
The latest line from Vegas shows Alabama as a double-digit favorite, a prediction Neighbors believes is justified.
“It’s going to be a mano-a-mano contest,” said Neighbors. “To me there is so much talent in Alabama’s squad that Auburn will need help to win. When I say help, I mean Alabama has to make mistakes, and it could happen.”
Neighbors said his past affiliation with Alabama does not influence his prediction, which is a 31-17 victory for the Crimson Tide.
Wes Neighbors and Steve Moulton host “The Drive” every Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on 97.7 The Zone.
