MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Madison Police and Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle wreck on Slaughter Road just north of Kannon Dr. around 10:30 Tuesday night.

Officers say the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the road, causing it to flip several times.  In the process, the vehicle clipped the guide wire for a power pole, knocking out power from Highway 72 West to Eastview Drive around Slaughter Road.

Emergency crews had to use chainsaws to cut the brush away to get to the man stuck inside the vehicle.  It took about 15 minutes for crews to free him.

Paramedics took the man to Huntsville Hospital with serious injuries.

Huntsville Utilities crews repaired the broken pole while on the scene. They hope to have all wires transferred to the new pole by 4:00 a.m.
