Businesses say Thanks to Veterans with Free Meals, Services and Discounts

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – On this Veterans Day, November 11th, WHNT NEWS 19 is focusing on helping the men and women who’ve sacrificed and served us all to ensure America is the greatest country on earth.

Lots of businesses are doing things today to say thanks to our veterans.   Click here to find the freebies!

The U.S. military is the unwavering wall that keeps America safe.  We are all protected by men and women who have served and sacrificed since the birth of our nation.

On this Monday, all Americans get a chance to say, “Thanks.”

“We just think it’s so special for us to be able to give back to the people that have served our country and fought for our freedoms,” said Bruce Maxwell, the managing partner of Texas Roadhouse restaurant.  “It’s a token of our appreciation for them.”

He’s talking about the free meals all locations of Texas Roadhouse are offering to veterans today.

The restaurant on Highway 72 in Madison is taking it a step further.  Today, they are unveiling a special parking space permanently reserved for a veteran to make it convenient for veterans to come in for a meal.

“We’re just so proud of them,” said Maxwell.  “Of what they’ve done and want to continue to show how proud we are.”

The staff is also collecting donations from patrons to put towards gift cards to be handed out to soldiers returning home during November and December.

Veterans can also get free meals today at Applebee’s, Chili’s, Golden Corral, Hooters, O’Charleys, Olive Garden, and others.

There are also freebies for other necessities in life,  including store discounts at Bed, Bath and Beyond, JC Penney, and Walgreens, and free haircuts for vets at Sports Clips and Great Clips Salons.

While veterans get special treatment on this day, afterward vets still have to meet daily financial needs.

Still Serving Veterans and Operation Stand Down are two local organizations that specifically cater to veterans, helping them with employment, housing and therapy from physical and emotional war wounds.

Along those lines, there’s a national organization connecting veterans to music.
Guitars for Vets is a non-profit organization that works through Veterans Affairs facilities to provide veterans with guitar lessons.

After 10 lessons, the veteran can earn a free guitar.   Organizers say a new chapter of Guitars for Vets in Tuscaloosa is in the works.

Also, on Monday and Tuesday, a program called Brides Across America is teaming up with wedding stores across the country to give away free wedding gowns to veterans or their fiances today and tomorrow.

The closest one is in Atlanta.  Veterans can register through the Brides Across America website.  This link will take you there too.

Then, veterans should go to a participating location, where–if they can find a dress in 30 minutes, it’s theirs for free.

Thank you, veterans, for all that you do and continue to do to preserve our freedoms and protect the American dream.

Here’s a Facebook site sharing all kinds of freebies, run by the wife of a military member.

Enjoy!
