HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Huntsville’s annual celebration of Veterans Day will be on Monday, November 11, 2013.
The roads in downtown Huntsville will be closed in stages for the parade beginning at 8:00 AM. All of the roadways for the parade will be closed by 10:45 AM.
The parade will begin at 11:00 AM and should be finished by 1:15 p.m. Once it’s finished, come see the unveiling of The Patriot’s Mosaic, The Patriot’s Gateway and The Patriot’s Walkway at on the Huntsville Depot grounds at 1:30 p.m.
Citizens traveling in the downtown area on Monday should expect two hours of slow moving detours in the area and drive with extreme caution due to the large number of children and pedestrians crossing the roads to view the parade. The Huntsville Police Department will be posting officers at all affected intersections to keep traffic flowing and business open in the area.
The parade will assemble and begin in parking Lot K at Clinton and Woodson Avenue and follow the same route as last year. However, this year the route will be reversed and the units in the parade will leave Lot K and travel east on Clinton Avenue, turn right to travel south on Monroe Street, turn left to travel east on Williams Avenue, turn left to travel north on Greene Street, turn left to travel west then south on Monroe Street, turn right to travel west on Holmes Avenue, turn left to travel south on Woodson Street and end at lot K.
Clinton Avenue eastbound traffic will be closed at Woodson Street at 8:30 AM on the morning of the parade for placement of equipment in the roadway. Monroe Street between Jefferson Street and Washington Street will also be closed at 10:30AM for placement of equipment in the roadway at Veterans Memorial Park.
All vehicle entrants in the parade will have to enter Lot K from the north entrance on Woodson Street just south of Holmes Avenue. Woodson Street southbound at the Lot K entrance will be closed at 10:00 AM for placement of heavy equipment and rolling stock on Woodson Street. Northbound traffic on Woodson Street will be maintained as long as possible to allow access to the Lot K north entrance.
