HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The time has come, Huntsville! The 2013 Social Media Tourism Symposium that your votes secured is coming to town Wednesday.
After four rounds of community voting, Huntsville emerged victoriously in the social media driven voting contest in April. All totaled, close to 30,000 votes were cast for Huntsville.
The conference will begin Wednesday, November 6 and will last until Friday, November 8 at The Westin. Conference attendees began arriving as early as Monday.
The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau expects the Social Media Tourism Symposium to bring hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic impact to Madison County and is expected to generate extensive online coverage for Huntsville/Madison County as a visitor destination.
“We’ve estimated #SoMeT13US will generate around $180,000 of economic impact for our community on top of the online exposure that Huntsville and Madison County is receiving,” explains Visitor Bureau Marketing Manager Jessica Carlton.
“These professionals are very social media savvy and they’re going to be tweeting and posting and sharing Instagram photos about their experience here in the Rocket City so that’s really immeasurable,” Carlton says. “It’s a great chance to really kind of have a megaphone to tell everyone, this is what we have going on in Huntsville and you should come check it out yourself.”
