HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A well-known candidate is throwing his hat in the ring for State Senate.
David Blair, Huntsville City School Board President, will run for the Alabama Senate. He will challenge Paul Sanford for the 7th District in the Republican primary next June.
Blair will officially announce his candidacy Tuesday, November 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Worthington Bank.
Blair served on the Huntsville City School Board from October 2000-2004. He was re-elected to the board in October 2010 and is currently serving as the President of the Board. Blair has an Electrical Engineering Degree, Master of Physics Degree and Doctorial work in Astrophysics. David Blair is employed by Miltec Systems as a Managing Director.
Blair has served as past president of the HEALS Board, The Schools Foundation Board, HEMSI Board, Special Olympic Track and Field Coordinator and CASA Coordinator for Miltec, Past President of HelpLine and works with Camp ASCCA, a camp for special adults and children in Jackson Gap, Alabama.
Paul Sanford has represented District 9 in the Alabama Senate since 2009. He was elected to fill the unexpired term of State Sen. Parker Griffith, who won election to Congress. Sen. Sanford is a restaurant owner in Huntsville.
