Flight Diverted to Huntsville After Security Breach at Birmingham Airport

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) --According to the Delta Airlines website a flight from Detroit headed to Birmingham diverted to Huntsville International Airport Sunday afternoon.

Our news partners at Al.com report that a bomb threat at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport lead to an evacuation of the facility.

Delta flight 3947 was scheduled to land in Birmingham at 5:10 Sunday afternoon.   But according to the website it landed in Huntsville.   It was scheduled to resume its flight to Birmingham at 5:29 for the 15 minute flight from Huntsville.

Birmingham passengers in the air and waiting in airplanes on the tarmac have indicated that pilots said there were "security issues" at the Birmingham airport.
