Joe Davis Stadium to Host 2nd County-Wide Electronics Recycling & Mercury Collection Event

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The City of Huntsville’s Operation Green Team, the Madison County Commission, the City of Madison, Covanta Energy and the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of the City of Huntsville are teaming up to host the second county-wide electronics recycling and Mercury collection event.

The event will take place Saturday, November 16 from 9a.m. to 1p.m. at Joe Davis Stadium at 3125 Leeman Ferry Rd., Huntsville.

The agencies will be collecting: televisions, home computers, telephones, cell phones, fax machines, printers, copiers, rechargeable batteries, stereo equipment, electronic games, PDAs, as well as mercury thermometers, Mercury thermostats, Mercury batteries, and Mercury switches.

“In October 2009, the community electronics collection netted over 103,000 pounds,” said Solid Waste Disposal Authority Executive Director Doc Holladay.

Fluorescent light bulbs will not be accepted at this event, please bring them to the Household Hazardous Waste Collections held on the first Saturday of each month at the Huntsville Landfill just south of the Johnson and Leeman Ferry Road intersection.

Covanta Energy is offering $10 gift cards for the Mercury thermostats and five dollar gift cards for Mercury thermometers a $50 gift card will be given to the first person bringing a Mercury thermostat and a Mercury thermometer.
