UPDATE: Man Dies Following Shooting at Fyffe Dollar General Store

FYFFE, Ala. (WHNT)–  Fyffe Police and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate a fatal shooting that took place Friday night at the Dollar General Store. Officials confirm to WHNT News 19 that 48-year-old Eddie Phillips of Dawson died from injures he received during the shooting.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting took place just before 8:30 at the store located on Highway 75 in Fyffe.

Officials tell WHNT News 19 that Phillips started an argument in the store’s parking lot with another man who was sitting in a car. Law enforcement officers say that the argument escalated and at some point the man in the car pulled out a gun and shot Phillips multiple times.

Phillips died at the emergency room.

After consulting with District Attorney Mike O’Dell an autopsy was ordered for Phillips body which was transported from DeKalb Regional to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville by Coroner Tom Wilson. Officials tell WHNT News 19 that the suspected shooter was released after an initial review of all of the circumstances. Further investigation is progressing at this time and the case will likely be presented to a grand jury for a determination of possible charges.
