Athens Utilities Warns Customers About Email Scam

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Athens Utilities is warning its customers about a new scam targeting their inboxes.

An Athens Utilities’ customer received an email informing that person that their debit/credit card on file had supposedly expired. The email includes “City of Athens Utilities” in the subject line.

This email was NOT issued by Athens Utilities or anyone affiliated with Athens Utilities. Those who receive the email should not respond to this request in any way and should not click the link in the email.

One or more of the debit/credit cards you have on file has expired. Please follow the link provided here to update your account information.

If you do not wish to receive further notifications concerning the expiration date on your saved card(s), then you may disable this feature by clicking the link above and changing the Expiration Date Notifications option to ‘No’.
