Man to Serve 20 Years for Attempted Kidnapping, Molestation

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The book is now closed on the case of a man who pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and attempted child molestation.

Nicholas Roberts will essentially serve 20 years in prison.  Monday, Madison County Circuit Judge Jim Smith sentenced Roberts to 20 years for each of two counts of kidnapping and 10 years for each of two counts of molestation.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Roberts pleaded guilty to the charges in October.  A jury had initially indicted him on 15 charges of both attempted kidnapping and attempted child molestation.

Madison County Assistant District Attorney Tim Gann said 11 of those counts were dropped in the plea agreement.

Prosecutors say the incidents happened in December 2011.
