BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) -- A Marshall County seven-year-old is trying to help her school win a lunch room make-over.
Lunch time at Corley Elementary is always a loud one.
The school has four hundred students, but only one serving line. It's been something school officials say they've wanted to change.
Sitting near that serving line is Ms. Hester's second grade class. At the far end of the table, Sydney Claire Noles is enjoying her lunch.
She says she wants to see the lunch room change too.
Her principal Ashley Walls says Sydney Claire is doing her best to make it happen. "Sydney Claire has decided, she came to me as her principal and asked me if we could do a contest for thirty thouand dollars for our lunch room makeover," Walls says.
The contest is called Uncle Ben's Beginner's Cooking Contest. "It's mostly about learning how to cook and getting in the kitchen with your family most of it," Sydney Claire says.
Along with her mom Rachel, Sydney Claire put together and submitted a video of them making dinner using Uncle Ben's rice as part of the recipe.
Sydney Claire will win based on how many Facebook shares, votes, and comments her video gets.
Friday, she says she was up to 127 comments.
Her teacher Sonya Hester says the entire class is participating each day in keeping up with the contest. She's also using it as a learning tool to teach them the value of working hard, and real-world marketing.
Walls says the entire school has been excited about the contest, and she's thrilled the students are taking such an interest.
Voting ends on October 27th. To vote, follow this link. You can find Sydney Claire's video by searching the term 'Corley'.
If she wins, the school will get a 30 thousand dollar make-over, Sydney Claire will get a trip to New York, an appearance on The Rachael Ray Show, and win 15 thousand dollars.
Other students across Alabama have entered the contest as well.
