MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – In an effort to help you save money and look good, WHNT NEWS 19 checked out a newer store in Madison called Spadoodles Clothing Exchange.
The store offers a way that you can make money off of things in your closet you may not wear much anymore and then save big time on replenishing your closet.
It may sound like a consignment store, but it’s not.
There are two locations of Spadoodles: one in Decatur, and their newest location in Madison.
WHNT NEWS 19 visited the Madison location, which has been open for only a month on Madison Boulevard. It’s a family owned and operated business that’s all about style and savings.
“I think it’s a great way to save money and earn money by selling your clothes,” said Katelyn Chappell. She shopped the store in Decatur and liked it so much she started working for Spadoodles.
Her boss explains what draws in young people like Katelyn.
“A very popular brand for us is American Eagle,” said Michael Brooks, co-owner of Spadoodles. “A pair of jeans from there sells for approximately $50 brand new at the mall. You can get a pair of American Eagle jeans here for about $12 to $18.”
Brooks emphasized the store is not a consignment shop. That’s because they pay customers for their gently used items on the spot.
“We pay our customers around 30% to 40% of what we sell it for and that just depends on the condition of the items, style and the demand for those particular items that they have,” said Brooks.
“I bring stuff in on occasion, just cleaning out the closet and they give a pretty good price for it,” said Chappell.
The store is all about name brands. In fact, that’s all they’ll accept.
Their website lists the dozens of high-end brands they look for.
“We look for just popular fashions that have been in the malls and retail stores.. within the last two years or newer,” said Brooks. “You can save a lot of money.”
Spadoodles Clothing Exchanges is located at 8580 Madison Boulevard in Madison and at 1634 Beltline Road, SW, in Decatur.
The Decatur store has been open for two years. Hours for both stores are Monday through Saturday from 10am to 7pm. They are closed on Sunday.
