Family Relieved After Arrest In Murder Case
FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – After countless hours of police work, Florence investigators make a big break in a homicide investigation.
Eugene Lee Jones is behind bars, charged with the murder of Lula Addison.
Addison was found dead inside the City Lodge motel in July.
Police say Addison only met Jones, hours before her death.
Detectives say Eugene Lee Jones had been a person of interest from the beginning of the investigation.
A second interview with jones Monday, led to his arrest.
“The evidence in this case is very compelling and the police department feels like they will be handing the district attorney’s office a very solid case that ultimately will lead to the conviction of Jones,” said Florence Police Chief, Ron Tyler.
The Lauderdale County prosecutor agreed. “I have no doubt this is a solid case and we look forward to the prosecution to get justice for this family,” said district attorney, Chris Connolly.
Police say Addison’s family finally has one answer they have been longing for during the past two months.
“They wish they had more information sooner, and we were able to explain today that we keep some information so close to us is it does aid in us ultimately making an arrest and holding the person responsible accountable for that,” explained Tyler.
Police say they worked closely with the FBI to make an arrest in this case. Detectives interviewed more than 100 people, and scoured hours of video, tracking down leads.
