NEW HOPE, Ala. (WHNT) - Madison County community and school leaders gathered Friday morning at the New Hope Children's Clinic to celebrate its grand opening on the grounds of New Hope Elementary School.

The clinic is a complete pediatric clinic for insured and uninsured kids, no co-pay required.

It will offer pediatric medical, dental, and vision care, as well as mental health treatment for clients.

This is the first comprehensive clinic of its kind in the state of Alabama. State School Board Member Mary Scott Hunter expects the clinic will lead to higher school attendance since students will have easy access to medical treatment.

The non-profit clinic is supported by various donors, churches and grants.

The clinic's Executive Director Marcie Williams thanked the community for continued support and said, "This is our village."

The clinic began work about 10 years ago, supported by HEALS, Inc. until 2009 when it became its own entity.
