LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Call it a sign of the times. A Limestone County businessman is doing his part to help government workers during the shutdown. Bill Davis is just like everyone else, he’s trying to make a living. But he’s also willing to help those who aren’t getting a pay check because of the federal government shutdown.
Davis says, “Since these people are getting laid off, they don’t have a choice in the matter.” He knows some folks are facing tough times with money being taken off their tables. He says that’s why, “We decided we’re going to help these folks that really don’t have a choice in whether they get to work or not and we’re going to do a dollar off a plate all weekend.”
Just like the sign outside the Hickory Barn Barbecue on Highway 72 says, “You bring us a government ID, we’re going to do our part to try to help you out,” added Davis. He says this is his way of taking care of his fellow Americans who are hurting. “American’s can take care of Americans.” Bill continued, “We don’t have to depend on this government all the time for everything. “
Davis says if the government shutdown goes into next week, he’ll give furloughed workers the same deal next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
