New Hope Students At Capitol Are Safe Following Shooting (Photo Gallery)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A class of 8th graders from New Hope are safe following a shooting at the Capitol, but they have one dramatic story to tell.
New Hope teacher Michelle Elliott said her class was just arriving to the Capitol area after an earlier morning tour to have professional photos taken on the steps when they saw people running.
Elliott says their tour guide got off the bus, heard gun shots and they left the area. The group also witnessed a brief portion of the police chase before it ended outside the Capitol.
The class was on a private tour at the Capitol with Rep. Mo Brooks. Brooks’ office says the New Hope students did not return to the Capitol after lunch due to the unfolding situation.
This class photo was taken Thursday on the Capitol grounds.
