Huntsville Police Identify Woman Found Dead on Oakdale Terrace
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police continue to investigate a woman’s death in north Huntsville. Emma Jean Carter, 71, was found dead Thursday afternoon outside of her home in the 2600 block of Oakdale Terrace.
The area is just off Blue Spring Road, north of Mastin Lake Road.
Police have talked with people in the neighborhood, who say they are floored.
WHNT News 19 talked with Brenda Jones, one of Carter’s friends.
“Honestly, it just grabs at grabs at my heart because of the community and everything,” said Jones. ”I never could have imagined anything like this would happen.”
“She’s a sweet lady, a sweet lady. I’ve personally known her for seven months,” Jones said. “I would go to her house and sit on the porch with her, talk to her and she’d share personal things with me that went on with the kids,” added Jones.
Police first visited the home of Jones’ friend to fill out a missing person’s report. The officer left, but came back to get more details. The officer then found Carter’s body in the backyard, according to investigators.
“It could happen anywhere,” said Jones. ”I don’t miss a day, just me personally, I plead the blood of Jesus all over my house every day.”
Jones has a message for anyone wanting to stand firm against violence.
“I would say be involved, stay involved and be on the lookout. If you do hear or see something, please, please, please call. Call for help! Call someone for help,” added Jones.
Police have not determined if foul play is a factor in this woman’s death. Madison County Coroner Craig Whisenant told WHNT NEWS 19 an autopsy for Carter is scheduled for Friday.
