Four North Alabama Towns Get Thousands To Fund Transportation Projects
JACKSON & DEKALB CO., Ala. (WHNT) — Four North Alabama towns are getting a combined nearly 800 thousand dollars for transportation projects.
Crossville, Woodville, Bridgeport, and Geraldine were approved by the Alabama Department of Transportation to get the funds.
The money will go toward projects like bike paths and sidewalks. Johnny Harris works for the Department of Transportation. He says the towns were four of several that were considered. “These towns were awarded the funds based on applications submitted to the department,” Harris says.
Harris says the funds will help give the projects a jump start. “Basically what this does, it enables a small community in particular to advance a project they otherwise would not have the funding for.”
He says the funds also help keep the towns from dipping into their own budgets. “It gives them an opportunity to expand on their infrastructure substantially without having to go into major funding,” Harris says.
The towns will design the plans for the Department to approve. The Department will bid out the construction in each town.
