Florence Police Say Robberies Strikingly Similar

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A title pawn business was robbed at gun point over the weekend, just blocks from where a man tried to rob a bank earlier in the month.

Investigators said both robberies were in high traffic areas, and both during the day.

Another coincidence, both men were wearing masks.

At 12:30 Saturday afternoon, police say a man wearing a skull mask entered the Always Money store on Cox Creek Parkway in Florence with two things… a gun and a duffel bag.

Police Sergeant Cliff Billingsley said the robber flashed his gun and demanded money from one of the employees inside the business.

“She complied with his demands and nobody was hurt. He then left on foot,” stated Billingsley.

According to investigators, although the man was wearing a mask, witnesses say the man had blonde hair.

There’s a different description of the robber at First Metro Bank on September 5th.

Witnesses say that person was wearing a clown mask and had a darker skin tone, but investigators say the actions were the same.

“The two were wearing a mask, a different mask, but being with-in a mile of one another, same part of town, close proximity,” explained Billingsley. “It’s definitely possible they could be connected.”

Sergeant Billingsley said in both robberies, the man fled into a wooded area behind the business where he believes there was a car waiting to drive them from the scene.

If you have any information on either robbery, you are asked to call the Shoals Area Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 256-386-8685.
