AUSTIN, Tx. (CNN) - An Ole Miss student is fighting for his life after an attack in Austin, Texas. Senior Carson Otter was hurt early Saturday morning in the downtown area of the city.

Friends say Otter was visiting the area with a group of friends when he began arguing with a driver. Police say the driver got out of a silver sedan, punched Otter once, then Otter hit the ground, banging his head.

The suspects then left the scene. Detectives don't have a description of the suspect at this point, other than the vehicle.

There is a surveillance camera in the area where it happened, at 7th and Trinity in Austin. Police are studying the video to see if any of the incident was caught on tape.

Members of the Ole Miss community are rallying around the senior. They've created a Facebook tribute page, asking for prayers for Carson Otter.

Police ask anyone with information to come forward.

Family friends say Otter underwent brain surgery on Monday and at last check was in critical condition.
