AUBURN – The Auburn Tigers returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon, holding a two-hour workout in full pads at the Auburn Athletics Complex practice fields as they work toward Saturday’s home game versus Mississippi State.

“We open up conference play against Mississippi State. We have had some good games with them the past three or four years,” Coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday. “We are glad to be at home. Our crowd will definitely be a big advantage. We appreciated them in the first two games. We expect another great crowd.”

Talking about the Bulldogs, Malzahn said, “Offensively, they have their quarterback back. He is a big guy who can throw the ball. They have the majority of their offensive line back. They are very good at what they do schematically on offense.

“Defensively, it looks like the same Mississippi State teams that we have played the last three or four years. They’re long, fast and they are physical. They play sound football, and they make you earn it. We have our work cut out for us. It should be a good one.”

Auburn continues its preparations for the SEC opener with practice Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers open SEC play on Saturday at 6 p.m. when they host Mississippi State inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
