Fire Damages Home; Owner Suspects Lightning is the Cause
MONROVIA, Ala. (WHNT) – A fire caused severe damage to a home in Monrovia.
Firefighters responded around 3:00 a.m. to the four-bedroom home on Gables Brook Drive near the intersection of Jeff Road and Old Monrovia Road, south of Blake Bottom Road.
The homeowner believes lightning is the cause of the fire. The homeowner says he discovered the fire after he heard a popping sound coming from the attic. He was able to get his son and dog out of the home. No one was injured.
The homeowner’s wife and daughter are out of town.
Monrovia and Harvest Volunteer Firefighters found the back corner of the home on fire when they arrived. They fought the fire for about an hour before flames engulfed the roof which started to collapse.
Firefighters were pulled out of the home and started to battle the flames from the outside. A ladder truck from the Madison Fire Department was called in to help fight the flames.
The Madison County Fire Marshal will investigate to determine the official cause of the fire.Submit Your Photo
