FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - A 27 year tradition in Florence could be making a move.
The Division II national championship game is up for bid, and several communities are interested.
Community leaders are making a push to "Keep It In the Shoals."
With those championship games at Braly Stadium, hundreds of thousands of families and fans have flocked to Florence and millions of dollars poured into the Shoals economy.
“It can`t get much better than this area, the hospitality, what the city has come to represent, the Shoals area, is known for hosting the Division II championship,” said UNA athletic director, Mark Linder.
However, now the Shoals National Championship Committee is vying for a new contract with the NCAA.
“If this game were to leave, we`ll do our best to find something else,” said Shoals National Championship Committee chairman, Mitch Dobbins. “Will we settle on our laurels and do absolutely nothing? Absolutely not.”
The Shoals National Championship Committee has started a website, so people can show their support for the cause.
Bids to the NCAA must be submitted by the middle of September.
