MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Deputies busted what they believe to be a meth lab at a home in Falkville, Five adults were arrested, and two children who deputies say were also in the home are now in protective custody.
Deputies say this all went down starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
They got a call requesting a juvenile welfare check at a home on Holmes Drake Road. Investigators say when they arrived, they smelled what they believed to a meth lab. Once inside the home authorities say they found a meth lab along with five adults and two small children — one 3 years old, and the other four months old.
Investigators say they also found evidence a meth lab exploded at this same location the day before on Tuesday. The explosion caught part of the home and a mattress on fire.
One of the adults also suffered burns to his legs and hands. Deputies say at least one of the children was at the home at the time of the explosion.
“I cannot express how we appreciate those people that are concerned about these little ones that are living here calling us,” said Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin. “This could have been a very, very, very serious situation had someone not called and asked us to check on the safety and welfare of these babies.”
A decontamination unit was called to the home. The five adults were taken into custody on various drug charges.
Lucas Speegle and Joseph Speegle are each charged with two counts of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance 1st degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of felony drug paraphernalia. A judge set bond at $505,000 each.
