MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A man accused of trying to help his son flee the country on a murder charge is once again scheduled for trial.
Dr. Iqbal Memon is set to go to trial October 28, 2013 in Judge Donna Pate’s courtroom. This is for his charge of hindering prosecution.
Dr. Memon faces a separate trial on charges he stole Medicaid funds, which is scheduled to begin September 16. The Alabama Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting that case.
Dr. Memon was arrested in April 2012 after his wife, Safia, and son, Hammad, tried to flee the U.S. to avoid the son’s murder charge.
Hammad Memon was convicted in the deadly shooting of Discovery Middle School classmate Todd Brown. He pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
