McGhee was shot in front of his Huntsville home in January. Huntsville attorney Mark McDaniel handled the divorce proceedings for Alonzo and Phyllis McGhee.
“The divorce case was finalized and he was awarded custody of his children on a Friday,” recounts the attorney, “the next Friday in front of his house he was murdered; he was slaughtered.”
McDaniel says friends of Alonzo McGhee have purchased billboards to go up sometime next week which will be strategically placed in 6 locations across Madison County. Those close to the lieutenant colonel are hoping for any information about who is responsible for taking McGhee’s life.
“Most importantly, this is not going to go away. He’s got friends out there and this firm is never going to let this thing go – it’s not going to be some cold case file that sits somewhere and starts gathering dust; it’s not going to happen,” insists McDaniel.
McDaniel says he remains hopeful casting a wide net with the billboard campaign will lead to the information that has so far escaped law enforcement and loved ones alike.
“For those people out there with information, and there are people out there with information, we know that – come forward on that and let’s do the right thing.”
There is a $20,000 reward offered for any information leading to an arrest in the Alonzo McGhee murder case.
