Decatur Teen’s Murder Case Going to Grand Jury
DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – The case of a 16-year-old suspected gang member charged with murder is going to a grand jury.
Elias Nava was in court in Decatur Tuesday morning. Decatur Police say Nava confessed to firing several shots from a rifle.
The shooting happened during a feud between what police say was between two rival gangs. Jim Uriostegui, 18, was killed.
Decatur Police Captain George Silvestri testified at Nava’s hearing. Silvestri said officers developed Nava as a suspect early on, but all they knew by was his gang name, “Little E.”
The judge found sufficient evidence in the case to bind it over to a grand jury.
