DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – The suspect in a Decatur murder investigation wants to be tried as a minor.  A hearing for that request has been delayed.

21-year-old Mitchell Lindsey is charged with the May 2012 murder of 88-year-old Bessie Yarbrough.

Lindsey’s youthful offender status hearing was set for August 12.  It will now be held on October 16.

Investigators say Lindsey hit and killed 88-year-old Bessie Yarbrough while driving a stolen car and running from police.

Hospital reports found Lindsey had meth and barbiturates in his system at the time of the crash.
