Athens Utilities Suspends Online Bill Pay for System Upgrade
ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Athens Utilities’ customers who pay their bills online will soon have to mail their payment in, the old fashioned way.
Athens Utilities is in the process of upgrading its billing and online payment services to an advanced and user friendly program. According to the Athens Mayor’s Office, the new system will allow customers to make payments without charging fees.
Online payment services will be suspended starting on August 15 and will remain unavailable though September 20. Customers may continue to pay by bank draft, traditional mail, or by visiting the Customer Accounts office on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The new online payment system will allow customers to change their own password without the assistance of the Athens Utilities staff and there will be no convenience fee for payments made by e-check, credit card or bank draft. There will also be a new pay-by-phone option.
Once the new system is launched, customers will need to re-establish their accounts with Athens Utilities. Instructions will be provided at www.athens-utilities.com.
