HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Madison County grand jury has declined to indict a former UAH hockey player who was charged with rape in April, according to our news partners at The Huntsville Times and al.com.

Lasse Uusivirta was charged with rape following a late-night encounter with a female student at UAH, which reportedly occurred in January.  The incident was originally investigated by campus police. The woman initially declined to pursue criminal prosecution and told campus police she wanted the case referred to the student conduct board.

Uusivirta then moved home to Finland, a month after being charged with first-degree rape.

The grand jury issued a “no bill” on Uusivirta’s first-degree rape charge, according to al.com.  Though he was not indicted, the district attorney’s office could bring the charge up again to a grand jury if Uusivirta ever returned to the U.S.
