LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Fire erupted in the kitchen of the popular Greenbrier Bar-B-Que, on Highway 20 adjacent to I-565, Friday night causing light to moderate damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout the building.

Huntsville firefighters, along with two Limestone County volunteer fire departments, all responded to the blaze at approximately 9:15 PM. Heavy smoke was reported coming from the building when firefighters arrived.

Employees were still on-hand but escaped the building unharmed. The restaurant was not open at the time of the incident.

Firefighters on the scene say the blaze was confined to a vent hood and ceiling in the kitchen. It took firefighters only a few minutes and some 300 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze.

One firefighter said it was fortunate the employees were still there and noticed the fire. He said had the building been empty, the fire would have probably done considerable damage before being noticed and called in.
