More and more Americans are embracing digital banking – online and mobile. New numbers from The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project show 51 percent of adult Americans now bank online – up from 46 percent in 2010. When it comes to mobile banking, 35 percent of cell phone owners admit they bank online – up from 18 percent in 2011.
The convenience of new mobile banking options can be great but there are also risks. To protect your personal information, CreditCards.com recommends the following tips:
- Password protect both your app and smartphone
- Logout when not using a mobile banking app
- Read up on how to remotely wipe a device of personal information in case of theft or loss
- When banking on the go, switch from using a public WiFi to your own 3G or 4G network.
