DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - The countdown is up. Our preview of the upcoming high school football season begins Thursday. Leading off our coverage is a squad that is hoping to get over the playoff hump in 2013.

The Austin High Black Bears of Decatur are coming off an impressive 8-3 campaign last year. But all three losses came after an 8-0 start, including a first round playoff loss to Pell City.

In fact, the Black Bears haven't won a playoff game since 1993. But there's good reason to believe the hex could end this season, as Austin gears up for the always tough 6A Region 8.

Four starters returning on the offensive line is one bonus, and then there's the return of multi-talented Chris Sparkman, entering his third season as Austin's starting quarterback.
